Patricia Nance, Class of 2017
SMU-IN-LONDON: ARTS AND CULTURE
Chemistry major, Math and Jewish Studies minor
Patricia spent 5 weeks of summer 2016 in London. During her summer, she took London: Exploring Representation of the “Performative” and Studies in Theatre, Drama, and Performance: English Theatre, Restoration to the Present.
Patricia spent a lot of her “class” time out in London. She went to a classroom two days a week and spent the other days on field trips out and about in London. Her class went to places like Borough Market and to see performance art in the Globe Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre, and National Theatre.
Her favorite experiences on her summer abroad were picnicking in front of Elizabeth Tower where Big Ben is, the Harry Potter studio tour, and seeing a performance at the Globe Theatre.
During her free weekends, Patricia went to Barcelona and Paris. She loved that she got to see the Sagrada Família and to take a cooking class while she was in Barcelona. If you’re in Paris, she recommends you check out the Musée Rodin which is a short walk from the Eiffel Tower. Patricia also took a trip to Bath, Salisbury, and Stonehenge. In Bath, you can visit the ancient Roman baths that the town is named after and in Salisbury you visit the Salisbury Cathedral and see an original copy of the Magna Carta.
Back in London Patricia recommends that you go see a play at the Globe Theatre on the Southbank, and check out Covent Garden, Borough Market, Camden Market, and Depa Tandoori for great food.
